Sun-N-Fun - Starts Today

The event starts today, but hanging around yesterday was an event in itself.

Volunteered to give school kids tours on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday morning. They took me over to the main volunteer center, put me on the list, and gave me a green arm band. When he said that it was good for the whole show, realized that I had just saved $90. Next year the volunteer service will cover the $80 camping fee, so the whole admission will be at no cost. Walking around with kids talking about airplanes does not seem like work at all to me.

Watched as plane after plane, homebuilts, classics, and warbirds came in. One RV8 looked so good at 100 yards that I had to check it out. The closer you got the better it looked. This was the most beautiful work of airplane art I have ever seen. But, right next to it was another RV8 that looked more like what I would build, neat, functional, but not a show bird. Both were equally proud of their creations, and should be.

Driving through the camping area, saw the second Hummel Bird I have ever seen (mine was the first). It had a neat olive drab military paint scheme much like a P39. It was on a trailer with the wings folded in a very clever way. Will post pictures of how he did it for those who might need to keep their planes at home. The owner has not certified it yet. Ask if he knew about this mail list, and he said that he did not have a computer, or want one. The plane was stock, except the canopy, and had excellent workmanship. Did not realize how small a stock bird is. Since mine was custom expanded for me, did not realize just how much bigger than stock it is.

Wont be able to get back to a computer until afterwards, but sure there will be something to report by then.

Thanks, Bruce King
